What is included in the Indian Ocean Fest Package Price?

Return airfares between Perth and Christmas Island, 7-nights accommodation on Christmas Island, transfers, a fully curated program of experiences and activities, breakfast, lunch and dinner, alcohol at bespoke dinners as specified in the program, equipment hire for program activities, gratuities, and program excursions.  

What is not Included in the Indian Ocean Fest Package Price?

Your transport to Perth. Insurance, vaccinations, medications, personal items (bar bills, phone calls, etc), all drinks (other than those mentioned in the program), expenses incurred for items purchased away from Fest package group (e.g., free time meals, snacks, transport, etc), excess luggage, insurance for extensions to travel dates/pre-existing medical conditions/ age loading fees, plus any other items not mentioned.

What is my accommodation standard?

Accommodation for the Indian Ocean Fest 2022 is at the modern and well-equipped  Christmas Island hotel-style apartments, with separate bedrooms, bathrooms, and lounge areas ( ). Depending on your travel party preference and availability at time of booking, double or twin bed configurations are available.

What if I am travelling alone?

A limited number of single rooms/apartments/suites may be available by request at time of booking. A single supplement will be payable and advised at time of booking.

How fit do I need to be to participate in the Indian Ocean Fest?

The Indian Ocean fest is an adventure experience! A good level of fitness, mobility and health is required to participate in the Indian Ocean Fest. Christmas Island is a remote destination with more than half the island National Park. The Indian Ocean Fest program includes extensive walking with some areas accessible over rough ground and rocky stairs. Mobility is needed boarding or alighting four-wheel drives, mini-buses, and coaches. It is your responsibility to advise Indian Ocean Fest of any pre-existing medical conditions that may affect your ability to participate in the program and the enjoyment of other passengers. Further information may be requested at time of booking if you advise any health, fitness, or mobility issues. Indian Ocean Fest is not liable for any injury, illness, or loss of enjoyment which could have been reasonably prevented had we been made aware of a pre-existing condition and been provided an opportunity to review it. We will not be responsible for any costs associated with cancellation penalties or the return of passengers from a tour, and a refund for missed activities and experiences cannot be claimed.

What if I need medical treatment?

Christmas Island is a remote destination with excellent medical facilities however there are limitations. It has a hospital with Emergency Services, but many specialist treatments are carried out on the mainland. There are also General Practitioner services available on the Island for Indian Ocean Fest participants should the need arise.

Indian Ocean Fest is not responsible or liable for any advice or treatment that may be provided by the doctor, or any failure on the part of the doctor to fully diagnose or treat any medical injury or condition which may arise or be identified during the Fest. Participants are responsible for all charges that result from visiting a medical facility or practitioner. Indian Ocean Fest is not responsible for the type or quality of the medical services you may receive. A Health and Mobility Statement is to be completed by all guests prior to departure.

Do I need a Visa and Passport?

Passports and visas are not required when travelling to Christmas Island from the Australian mainland. However, photographic identification, such as an Australian Driver’s Licence or Proof of Age card, must be produced for each passenger for clearance through Customs and Immigration. A valid passport meets this identification requirement and is the preferred means of documentation to expedite passenger processing. Indian Ocean Fest is not responsible for missed flights resulting from incorrect travel documents or lack of identification.

Are transfers included?

Group airport transfers are included on arrival at, and departure from Christmas Island. The Indian Ocean Fest includes group transfers from or in between your accommodation and various attractions, points of interest and experiences as included in the program. A group transfer is generally a shared transfer departing at a set time and the type of vehicle used will normally be dependent upon the size of the group.

Is Travel Insurance included?

Travel Insurance is not included in your holiday package. For your protection, you are required to purchase comprehensive travel insurance. See further information in the booking terms and conditions.

Do I need to be vaccinated for COVID-19?

Yes. Full COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory and proof that you are fully vaccinated with a government approved COVID-19 vaccine will be required for each guest – e.g., your digital vaccination certificate.

Can children attend the Indian Ocean Fest?

As the Fest is limited to just 30 participants, many of the activities are not suited to children. For the first year, the Indian Ocean Fest 2022 is limited to guests 18+.

What about special requests?

Where a special request (e.g., diet, twin- or double-bedded room, and/or meals) is an important factor to you, you must advise us when your booking is made. Indian Ocean Fest will pass your request onto our suppliers but cannot guarantee it will be accommodated. As Christmas Island is a remote destination, menu planning and curation takes place well in advance. Not all ingredients are available. We will make every effort to accommodate menu requests within the program of curated experiences – e.g., vegetarian, gluten free, but cannot cater to wide-ranging likes and dislikes. Confirmation that a special request has been noted or passed on to the supplier or the inclusion of the special request on your confirmation invoice or any other documentation is not confirmation that the request will be met. Unless and until specifically confirmed, all special requests are subject to availability.

What about Flight Changes

The flight timings between Christmas Island and Perth detailed on your confirmation invoice are for guidance only and are subject to alteration and confirmation. Flight timings are set by Virgin Australia and affected by events outside our control. Indian Ocean Fest will advise you of any significant changes as soon as it is informed by the airline.  

What about lost items and personal belongings?

For security reasons, valuables should be kept to a minimum and packed in your hand luggage along with your medicines. It is your responsibility to always look after your property, and you must ensure you are adequately covered by comprehensive travel insurance in the event of any loss.

Is my program itinerary guaranteed?

Much care and attention to detail has gone into the curation of the Indian Ocean Fest program. However, sometimes circumstances beyond our control occur, which is why our itineraries are intended as a general guide and are subject to alteration without notice. Alternations may be necessary for various reasons including, without limitation, road, ocean, or weather conditions, strikes, airline schedule changes or other reasons beyond the Indian Ocean Fest’s control. Itineraries will operate as far as possible as published. You are not entitled to any refund for any alterations to your itinerary that are caused or contributed to by events which are beyond our control.

Is smoking permitted?

The Indian Ocean Fest follows government regulations regarding smoking, which is not permitted in enclosed public spaces, public transport including our transfers, on beaches, or in national parks. There are limited designated areas where smoking is allowed. Smoking is not permitted in hotel rooms.

Are there luggage limits?

Yes. Christmas Island flights are operated by Virgin Australia and subject to strict carry on and checked baggage requirements. For carry on, standard Virgin Australia limits apply e.g. one standard piece, dimensions 56 cm long, by 36 cm wide x 26 cm deep + one small personal item (for full range visit  1 x 23 kg checked bag is included. Before you pack, make sure your bags meet the Virgin Australia checked bag maximum total linear dimension (length + width + height): 140cm (55in). Note that each passenger is entitled to one priority checked bag only. Any additional bags may not be uplifted.

Is there mobile phone reception on Christmas Island?

Mobile phone reception is limited on Christmas Island. A Telstra 2G GSM mobile service operates in the populated areas of the island, however, there is currently no mobile data service, and reception is patchy or non-existent in most of the National Park. Optus also provides services to Christmas Island via its satellites.

Is there internet access?

Internet access on Christmas Island is provided by satellite. There is currently no internet available via the mobile phone network. There is limited data available at CI apartments and limited Wi-Fi hotspots. Further information will be provided to participants during welcome and briefing. 

Local culture travel tips?


Islanders are proud of their home and its harmony, and a blend of Buddhist, Christian, Taoist, and Muslim cultures is celebrated – places of worship are open to all.

  • Modest dress is suggested out of respect in the Kampong area.
  • Shoes should be removed before entering a house, temple, or mosque.
  • Muslim people use their right hand for eating, giving and receiving and will appreciate if you do the same when meeting them.
  • Refrain from touching a person’s head.
  • Visitors are welcome to enter and photograph the Chinese Temples and join in the celebrations.
